Joseph J. Thomas
President & Chief Executive Officer
Joseph J. Thomas has been appointed as Freedom Bank’s President and Chief Executive Officer effective August 27, 2018. Mr. Thomas, 55, was most recently President and CEO of Bay Bancorp (NASDAQ: BYBK), a community bank with $700 million in total assets based in Columbia, Maryland, before its successful sale to Old Line Bancshares in April of 2018 when Thomas was appointed to the Board of Directors. Mr. Thomas was previously Managing Director of Hovde Private Equity Advisors and Financial Services Partners Fund I, a private equity fund dedicated to investing in financial services companies and community banks. Mr. Thomas enjoyed a distinguished 20-year career with Wachovia Corporation. Over the course of his career at Wachovia, Mr. Thomas held a range of credit, corporate finance, and capital markets positions. Mr. Thomas’ last role was Managing Director of Wachovia Securities and Head of Financial Institutions Investment Banking in Charlotte, North Carolina. Mr. Thomas holds a BA from the University of Virginia and an MBA from Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. In addition, Mr. Thomas is a Chartered Financial Analyst, a member of the CFA Society of Washington, DC and a National Association of Corporate Directors Governance Fellow. Mr. Thomas also served on the Federal Delegate Board of the Independent Community Bankers of America.
Shaun E. Murphy
Chief Operating & Credit Officer
Mr. Murphy has over 25 years of national and international experience in financial services in senior positions in loan origination, credit, capital markets, regulatory compliance and workout.

Murphy was most recently SEVP and Chief Credit & Risk Officer at City First Bank in Washington DC since 2015. Prior to that, he served as Chief Risk Officer of H Bancorp where he was responsible for all risk and compliance activities and served on the Board of Directors of Bay Bancorp and its bank subsidiary, Bay Bank. Prior to H Bancorp, Murphy served as Managing Director of Hovde Private Equity Advisors, LLC where he was responsible for risk and due diligence activities surrounding strategic bank investments.

Murphy has worked at CapitalSource Inc. as Chief Operating Officer responsible for portfolio administration and operations of the Structured Finance Business. Prior to that, he was the Credit Executive for PNC Financial Services Corporate Banking and PNC Capital Markets, Inc., responsible for underwriting, portfolio administration, and strategic positioning. Murphy was also at Allfirst as Chief Regulatory Officer responsible for all compliance functions across the bank and other subsidiaries as well as the bank's BSA Officer, CRA Officer, Chief Compliance Officer, and Chief Ethics Officer. He began his career at HSBC in New York and holds degrees from The London School of Economics and Political Science (M.Sc.) and Villanova University (B.S.B.A.).
Raj Mehra
Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer
Raj Mehra joined Freedom Bank as the Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer in December 2017. For many years Mr. Mehra was CFO of Middleburg Financial Corp., the holding company of Middleburg Bank. Previously, he served as director of financial risk management at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and held positions at JP Morgan Chase and Credit Suisse. Mehra received his bachelor’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, and holds two graduate degrees including an MBA from the University of Massachusetts. He is a member of the American Bankers Association’s Accounting Committee and the AICPA's Depository Institution Expert Panel.
C. Kevin Curtis
Executive Vice President & Chief Lending Officer
C. Kevin Curtis has served as Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer since March 2013; prior to that date, he served as Executive Vice President, Corporate Banking since joining the Bank in October 2012. Before joining the Bank, Mr. Curtis served as the Virginia President for WashingtonFirst Bank in Reston, Virginia. Mr. Curtis has over 20 years of experience in commercial banking in northern Virginia.
Richard A. Hutchison
Executive Vice President & Chief Mortgage Officer
Richard A. Hutchison is an Executive Vice President and Chief Mortgage Officer and member of the bank’s senior management team. Hutchison was previously with Virginia Heritage Bank as a Senior Executive Officer and the Chief Mortgage Officer responsible for all mortgage loan production and first trust mortgage origination. Prior to Virginia Heritage Bank, Hutchison was a Senior Executive Officer with Community Bank of Northern Virginia which was sold to Mercantile and PNC. Hutchison is a native of Western Fairfax County and has been in local community banking for 35 years. He is a strong supporter of the Virginia Bankers Association and the Virginia Mortgage Lenders.
Kathleen S. Croson
Executive Vice President & Chief Banking Officer
Kathleen Croson joined Freedom Bank as Executive Vice President, Chief Banking Officer in January 2018. Ms. Croson began her career at First Virginia Bank. She served in various capacities of increasing responsibility at Middleburg Bank for 18 years. Ms. Croson was a branch manager, led retail and consumer banking operations and most recently served as Middleburg’s senior vice president of client services. Ms. Croson has a bachelor’s degree from George Mason University and has served in a number of industry association positions.

H. Jason Gold
Chairman
H. Jason Gold has served as a director of the Bank since May 2003. Mr. Gold is a partner in Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP’s Washington D.C. office where he focuses his practice on bankruptcy, financial restructuring, and liquidations. He has served as a bankruptcy trustee for more than 25 years and has more than 30 years of experience in complex restructuring and insolvency matters in various industries. He also serves as a bankruptcy examiner and federal and state appointed receiver. Mr. Gold served as a partner with the Firm of Wiley Rein LLP, McLean, Virginia from 2002 until 2014, and as President of the Firm of Gold Morrison & Laughlin, P.C. from 1985 until 2002
John T. Rohrback
Vice Chairman
John T. Rohrback has served as a director of the Bank since August 2004 and served as Chief Executive Officer from 2004 to 2011. He was hired in 2001 as Executive Vice President and Senior Lending Officer. Mr. Rohrback was President and Chief Executive Officer, as well as a director of Heritage Bank from 1996 until 1999. Prior to this, Mr. Rohrback was Executive Vice President, as well as a director of Hallmark Bank and Trust until its acquisition by F & M National Corporation in 1996. Mr. Rohrback began his banking career in 1965 at Signet Banking Corporation, serving in various positions including Senior Vice President and Director of Signet Bank, N.A.
Cynthia Carter Atwater
Cynthia Carter Atwater has served as a director of the Bank since 2003 and is the Corporate Secretary. Ms. Atwater is a Principal of Digital Benefit Advisors, Reston, Virginia and was formerly President and Chief Executive Officer of CCA Consulting, Inc., Reston, Virginia. Ms. Atwater served on the Advisory Board of the Bank as both Chairman and Vice Chairman until 2003.
Terry L. Collins
Terry L. Collins, Ph.D. has served as a director of the Bank since February 23, 2007. Dr. Collins was a founding director of James Monroe Bank, where he served as a director from 1998 to 2006, when it was acquired by Mercantile Bancshares. Dr. Collins is retired Chairman of the Board, CEO, and President of Argon ST., Fairfax, Virginia. Dr. Collins was one of the three founders of Argon Engineering Associates, Inc. (Argon Engineering). Dr. Collins served as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Argon Engineering from its inception in 1997 until its merger with SenSy Tech in 2004. From 1995 until 1997, Dr. Collins was the general manager of the Falls Church Division of Raytheon E-Systems. From 1989 until 1995, Dr. Collins was the President of Engineering Research Associates, a wholly owned subsidiary of E-Systems Corporation. Dr. Collins served as the senior member of the engineering management team at Engineering Research Associates from 1979 until its acquisition by E-Systems Corporation in 1989.
George Thomas Collins Jr.
G. Thomas Collins, Jr. has served as a director of the Bank since November 30, 2000. Mr. Collins is a founding and organizing director of the Bank. He has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1971 and was a former Partner at Goodman & Company, LLC, McLean, Virginia. Prior to that, Mr. Collins served as President of the accounting firm of Collins, Forbes & Company.
Robert D. Falese Jr.

Robert D. Falese was appointed to the Board of Directors in January of 2016. He brings a wealth of experience to the board with more than 40 years' experience in banking. Mr. Falese serves as a consultant to Patriot Financial Partners LP.

Mr. Falese served as Chairman for Commercial Banking for TD Bank, N.A. from 2007 to 2009; as President and CEO for Commerce Bank, N.A. (predecessor to TD Bank, N.A.) and Executive Vice President and Chief Lending officer of Commerce Bank, N.A. from 1992 to 2007. During his tenure at Commerce, the bank grew from $800 million to $50 billion and from 10 offices to 450 offices. Mr. Falese was directly responsible for hiring and developing Senior Managers to staff the bank's growth and directing the Lending and Investment Banking activities, which grew 10% or more each year with excellent credit metrics.

Prior to 1992, Mr. Falese held various Senior Management positions at Fidelity Bank, N.A. and First Pennsylvania Bank, dating back to 1969.

Mr. Falese holds a BS in Economics from St. Joseph's University; an MBA from Drexel University and completed the Executive Management Development Program at Duke University.

Mr. Falese served as a Trustee, Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Board for St. Joseph's University from 2007 to 2014. He also serves as a Director for NHS Enterprise and formerly for NHS Human Services, a $500 million revenue company serving developmentally disabled, autistic and special needs adults and children in Pennsylvania and six other states.

Mr. Falese also serves as a Director for Empire Bancorp, Inc. in Long Island, New York.

Lauren F. McKelvey
Ms. McKelvey has served as a director of the Bank since 2018. She is a partner in the prominent Northern Virginia law firm Odin Feldman Pittleman where she frequently litigates commercial matters, intellectual property disputes, and other business matters in state and federal court. She also crafts and negotiates financing and technology agreements for her clients. Her experience extends as well to the representation of financial fiduciaries and banks. Ms. McKelvey has been recognized as a "Top Lawyer" by Washingtonian magazine, as well as a "Rising Star" by Virginia and Washington, D.C. Super Lawyers. She sits on the Board of Directors of the International Women's Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC). Ms. McKelvey received her J.D., magna cum laude from the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University, her M.A. from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, and her B.A., summa cum laude from Sweet Briar College.
Alvin E. Nashman
Dr. Nashman has served as a director of the Bank since February 2007. Dr. Nashman was a founding director of James Monroe Bank, where he served as a director from 1997 to 2006, when it was acquired by Mercantile Bancshares. Dr. Nashman was Head of the Systems Group, Computer Sciences Corporation, from 1965 until his retirement in 1992.
Brandon C. Park
Brandon Park founded Superlative Technologies, Inc. (SuprTEK) in 1996 and manages corporate direction and strategy guiding the growth of the organization from start up to the current projected annual revenue of $40+ million for 2018. SuprTEK has been recognized by industry, Congress and Government Customers for excellence through innovative solutions. SuprTEK is poised for continued growth with an experienced management team based upon core competencies. Mr. Park earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and currently serves as SuprTEK’s CEO. He enjoys and serves community and charitable organizations in multiple capacities as supporter, director, treasurer and coach.
